Moffi has been brilliant for Nice since he joined in January, and he just keeps proving that he is a class act
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi scored a brace, including a spectacular overhead kick to help Nice grind out a 2-2 draw against Basel Soccernet.ng reports.
Nice were looking to get a good result in the first leg of their Europa Conference League quarterfinal matchup against Basel at St. Jakob Park.
Coach Didier Digard tasked red-hot Super Eagles striker Moffi with leading his attack, and he did his job to perfection.
Both teams were evenly matched in the early proceedings, but Basel got an early advantage midway into the first half when they won a penalty. Zeki Amdouni made no mistake from the spot, as he slotted home to put his side in front.
However, Nice were just too good to be let down especially with Moffi lurking. The Nigerian striker displayed his distinct striker’s instinct, reacting first to a rebound in the box and firing home from close range to restore parity in the 38th minute.
Seven minutes later, Moffi struck again, and it was in sensational fashion, something that even the gods of football would be proud of. Gaetan Laborde sent a precise cross into the box, and Moffi, who was out of position improvised and struck the ball with an overhead scissors kick to give Nice a 2-1 lead going into the break.
Nice controlled the second half, bossing the possession, but Basel looked very dangerous on the attack. They created more chances, and they eventually profited from one in the 71st minute, and it was Amdouni again.
Moffi was taken off in the 84th minute, and he was replaced by Bilal Brahimi.
The game eventually ended 2-2 at Basel. But there is all to fight for in the second leg at the Allianz Riviera next week.
