Nigeria’s Super Falcons captain, Onome Ebi, has hailed her international teammate and Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala, as “one of the best players in the world.”
Ebi, who was speaking to CAFOnline ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, said that Oshoala’s performances at club level have been “incredible” and that she is an example for the others in the national team.
Soccernet.ng reports that Oshoala has been in fine form for Barcelona this season, scoring 19 goals in 23 league games and helping the champions reach the semifinals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The 28-year-old forward was also on target for Nigeria in their recent friendly match against Haiti, scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory.
Ebi praised Oshoala’s professionalism and resilience in returning from injury to perform at the highest level. She said that Oshoala’s determination and hard work inspired the rest of the team and that they were all looking forward to seeing her perform at the World Cup.
“It’s a blessing to have her in this team,” Ebi said. “She is a great professional and an example for the whole team. Her performance at club level is incredible.
“Many people forget that a few months ago she was injured and today she is up on the pitch putting up huge performances both in the local league and the Champions League.
“She is one of the best players in the World and speaking to her, she is also hugely waiting for the World Cup and has already set her targets for the tournament. She is doing everything she can to be on top form.”
The Super Falcons have won the African Women’s Cup of Nations a record 11 times, and the African giants will be making their ninth appearance at the World Cup. They have been drawn in Group B, where they will face Canada, Ireland, and hosts Australia.
With less than 100 days to go until the start of the tournament, Ebi and her teammates are working hard to prepare for the challenge ahead. And with Oshoala leading the line, they will be hoping to make a big impact on the global stage.
