The Napoli man is set to miss his club’s league clash with AC Milan on Sunday night, but it has become clear that he is not the only Nigerian international down
Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi is set to miss FC Porto’s crucial clash against Portimonense after sustaining an injury during Nigeria’s back-to-back Afcon qualifying fixtures against Guinea-Bissau.
The 25-year-old full-back played every minute of both matches, which has led to his absence from FC Porto’s upcoming game.
The Super Eagles lost the first leg 1-0 in Abuja but recovered to record a victory by the same scoreline in Bissau four days later.
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen was also involved in both games and has been confirmed to be carrying a knock that would keep him out of Napoli’s Serie A tie against AC Milan on Sunday night.
Zaidu has been a regular player for Porto this season, making 17 appearances in the Portuguese League. His absence, as reported by Zerozero, will be a significant blow to the team’s defense as the champions seek to retain the league title they won last summer.
Porto’s coach, Sérgio Conceição, already has a long list of injured players to contend with, including Diogo Costa, João Mário, Pepe, João Marcelo, and Evanilson. This injury crisis has left the coach with limited options for the upcoming match.
Brazilian right-back Wendell, who has been on the bench for most of the season, is expected to replace Zaidu in the starting lineup.
FC Porto are currently in second place in the league, ten points behind leaders Benfica. The absence of Zaidu Sanusi will make their task of closing the gap more challenging.
