Red-hot Nigerian star bags AIC player of the month award for February

This year, two Nigerian players won the AIC player of the month honour

Super Eagles and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has been voted the AIC player of the month for February.

Thanks to his remarkable goal-scoring form, the Nigerian has clearly been a standout performer for the Parthenopeans in the 2022–23 season.

The 24-year-old has played 21 Serie A league games, scoring 19 goals and dishing out 4 assists. He has significantly assisted Luciano Spalletti’s team’s quest for the scudetto this season.

The Super Eagles’ talisman scored 5 goals in the 5 domestic league games in February, including a brace against Spezia Calcio. And indeed, this has helped him win the AIC player award.

The Super Eagles forward, who scored five goals in five games in January, would have been named player of the month for January. Still, he only provided one assist compared to his countryman Ademola Lookman, who scored five goals—a brace against Salernitana and Juventus and one against Sampdoria.

The goals could be ignored for the January award, but Lookman bested the award with the two assists he contributed in his January league games.

In February, Malick Thiaw, Riccardo Orsolini, and Ángel di María had outstanding months for their teams. Still, the Osimhen was able to edge them out for the AIC player of the month honour for February.

The former LOSC Lille star could not find the back of the net in their first game in March, which resulted in Napoli’s second loss of the season. Still, he will be looking to fire back his scoring form when they welcome Atalanta to the Diego Maradona Stadium.
