Newcastle eyeing Super Eagles-eligible scoring sensation rivalling Kylian Mbappe

The Magpies are among the wealthiest clubs in England, and they are expected to make several big-money signings at the end of the season

Folarin Balogun, the Super Eagles-eligible forward who has been in fine form for Ligue 1 side Reims, has caught the attention of Premier League side Newcastle United.

The Magpies are reportedly considering submitting an official offer for the Arsenal striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Balogun, currently on a season-long loan at Reims, has scored an impressive 15 goals in 25 games in Ligue 1 this season, making him the team’s top-performing offensive player.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Premier League clubs reportedly showing interest in the 21-year-old.

Newcastle United are said to be one of the clubs interested in Balogun, with journalist Steve Kay revealing on Twitter that the Magpies are pondering whether to make an official offer for the forward later in the summer.

Kay wrote: “Newcastle United are considering making a bid for Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun this summer.

“The Gunners forward, who is currently on loan at Reims, has scored 15 goals in 25 games in #Ligue1UberEats this season.”

With 120 goal contributions (96 goals and 24 assists) in just 161 appearances throughout his career at youth and senior level, the Adidas-sponsored ace is widely regarded as one of the top young talents in European football.

Should Newcastle be able to secure Balogun’s services, it would be a massive coup for the club, as the young striker is seen as a player with a bright future ahead of him.

Balogun up against Mbappe

After several brilliant showings, Balogun has been nominated for the UNFP Player of the Month award for February. Balogun has been nominated for the UNFP Trophy alongside PSG forward Kylian Mbappe and OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

The 21-year-old England youth international of Nigerian descent played in all five of Reims’ games in February, scoring four goals.

His first hat-trick as a professional came in a 4-2 win over Lorient. Balogun is fourth in the Ligue 1 top scorer race with 15 goals, behind Kylian Mbappe, Wissam Ben Yedder, and Jonathan David.
