The three-time African champions will seal their spot at the next edition of the Afcon with victories in both ties with the Djurtus
Rivers United goalkeeper Victor Sochima has expressed his joy and gratitude at being called up to the Nigerian national team for the first time.
Sochima was included in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches against Guinea-Bissau.
The impressive shot-stopper was a key player during Rivers United’s league victory in 2022. He has continued his impressive form this season, not only in the domestic league but also in the CAF Confederation Cup.
In an interview with DAILY POST, Sochima spoke about his excitement at being named to the squad and attributed his success to God and the support of his fans and colleagues.
“It’s just been God all through. I’m really thankful to everyone that has supported my career to achieve this great feat,” he said.
The Super Eagles will face Guinea-Bissau in a doubleheader, with the first match on Friday, March 24, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja. The reverse fixture will be held at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Monday, March 27.
Sochima will likely be the backup to Super Eagles’ number one Francis Uzoho in the two matches.
