The 2013 AFCON winners sit in second place, one point behind Guinea-Bissau, which has seven points in the rankings of the qualifying Group.
The Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro, has guaranteed the Nigerian supporters that his squad would make amends when they visit Bissau.
The Nigerian national men’s team’s loss against Guinea-Bissau on Friday night hurt their prospects of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations competition.
The Nigerian fans have been reassured by the Portuguese tactician that their squad would atone when they go to Estádio 24 de Setembro for the rematch of their AFCON qualifying match against the African Wild Dogs.
The Super Eagles players and supporters are devastated once again after they lost at the same stadium where Ghana won their World Cup tickets for Qatar 2022.
Peseiro, who succeeded Augustine Eguavoen in May 2022, has also declined to resume the winning ways after losing six games and winning only two of eight games.
After the most recent defeat, the 62-year-old manager admits that his team didn’t capitalise on their opportunities, but he is certain that in the return match, things will be different.
“We are sad and upset with this bad result. But we played a good game, very attacking, and created many goalscoring opportunities that, unfortunately, we didn’t take. We want to repeat this performance in Guinea, but scoring. We are going with all our commitment and sacrifice to win,” he wrote on his Twitter feed.
