Why we signed Arokodare as Onuachu’s replacement – Genk’s Head of Football

Tolu Arokodare has bagged 22 goals with 4 assists in 34 league appearances while almost tallying the same in Amiens with 21 goals and 4 assists.

KRC Genk’s Head of Football, Dimitri De Condé, has revealed why the Belgian side secured the signature of Nigerian attacker, Tolu Arokodare as Paul Onuachu’s replacement.

According to him, he was signed due to his agile physicality and his scoring technique with the ball.

Soccernet.ng earlier reported that the Super Eagles forward, Onuachu made a switch from the Belgian side to Southampton on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The striker, who recorded a total of 16 goals in 19 league appearances for the Smurfs in the 2022-23 season campaign.

Meanwhile, in the space of four seasons at the Luminus Arena, the striker recorded a total of 73 domestic league goals for the Blue-White in 103 appearances.

The best alternative to, however, fill this blank space became a puzzle to find for Genk, but Arokokode, who has similar scoring prowess, topped the list of options for Belgian league leaders.

Arokodare, having penned a 4-and-a-half-year deal with the Belgian club, is tagged as the best replacement by the club’s head of football.

“Despite his length, he is very agile, fast in the first meters and strong with his head,” he said via the club’s official website.

Condé went on to say that when events at the club progress for him, he will also grow better.

“He is already showing flashes of his class today. In addition, there is a lot of stretch to it. Under the wings of our technical staff, he is going to be able to make big steps forward in the coming years. We have proven with several other young talents that KRC Genk is the ideal environment for that.” he continued.

However, it is unknown if the talented striker will accompany the squad to Eupen or make his debut on Sunday when Genk plays Gent.
