Why the Super Falcons will benefit from the Revelation Cup – Coach Waldrum

The Super Falcons are among the few teams in the world to have participated in every FIFA Women's World Cup.

Super Falcons Head coach, Randy Waldrum, has provided fresh details regarding the participation of the Nigerian women's national team in the Revelation Cup.

The pre-World Women's Cup competition, in the opinion of the Texas native, is the ideal place to begin the preparation for the Falcons' imminent global tournament.

Nigeria will be one of the four countries participating in the competition staged in Mexico as a warm-up for the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Today, February 15, the four-nation competition will begin with Costa Rica playing Colombia in the first match and the Super Falcons playing Mexico on the same day.

Prior to the event, which aims to get the ladies ready for the next World Cup competition scheduled to take place in July, Waldrum provided a roster of 23 players.

Speaking on this, the manager stated that the squad will benefit most from the warm-up games.

He told NFF TV, “I think this tournament is a good one to ship us off ahead of the world.”

“I think this tournament will be good preparation for us because in the last five games, we played the US twice. We played Canada twice, and we played Japan.”

“Those are five very, very difficult games. And I think it's important that our team is winning and being successful in the things we're trying to do.

“So I think these are games that hopefully we can do some of the things we've been working on and some of the things we're trying to prepare for the World Cup.” He continued.

Speaking on the tournament, the 66-year-old manager said that he would have wanted to play his girls against Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland owing to their playing style.

“You know, in some way, I would have liked to play some European teams because our group has Canada, Ireland, and Australia, which play a completely different style than Mexico, Colombia, and Costa Rica will play.

“But having said that, I think these matches will allow us to gain some success and some other areas that we need to. So I'm just thankful to the president of the Federation for allowing us these games and this opportunity to have these 10 days together in preparation because we definitely need it,” Says the coach.

The Super Falcons will play Australia on July 21 in their first group match, again against Australia on July 27, and then against the Republic of Ireland in their final group match.
