The Super Eagles forward recently garnered attention with an outstanding performance that caught the attention of several European teams.

Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen, has disclosed the position in which he began his career.

According to him, he began his career as a defender, but the goal machine has now evolved into one of Africa’s top strikers.

Before joining VfL Wolfsburg in 2017, the Super Eagles forward began his career with the Ultimate Strikers Academy.

Prior to the move, he scored 11 goals for Emmanuel Amunike’s team while playing in a few games for the Nigeria U17 side in 2015. And the same year, he played for the Samson Siasia U23 team until being ultimately called up to the Super Eagles squad in 2017.

The Nigerian has already scored 100 goals in his career after deviating from the first position he started with, surpassing the two greats, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, in the process.

Perhaps his first position of choice would not have got him this far. However, the Nigerian revealed his first position in a video uploaded on Napoli’s social media account.

24-year-old said: “My first role? I was a defender [laughs].”

The Nigerian has bagged 18 goals in 19 league appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s men, and according to reports, he will be involved in Napoli’s Champions League tie against Eintracht Frankfurt despite injury fears.
