The Nigerian international enjoyed a spectacular year in Mexico and has earned the biggest transfer deal between Liga MX-NWSL
National Women’s Soccer League campaigners Racing Louisville have completed the signing of Super Falcons attacker Uchenna Kanu from Mexican club Tigres Femenil.
Kanu spent only a year with Tigres after joining from Swedish giants Linköpings FC in January 2022.
But the 25-year-old attacker was an instant hit in Mexico scoring 23 goals in 39 games, leading the Amazons to two titles – the Apertura 2022 and the Copa Amazonas.
And impressed by Kanu’s exploits at the Sultana del Norte, Racing Louisville have moved swiftly to bring the Nigerian striker to the Lynn Family Stadium.
Racing Louisville have agreed to pay $150,000 to Tigres Femenil for Kanu, in a deal that is a record transfer between a National Women’s Soccer League club and a Liga MX club.
The American side will also pay an additional $30,000 to the five-time Liga MX champions if Kanu scores 12 or more goals this season.
In the agreement which is a player-plus-cash deal, Louisville will also send 22-year-old youngster Riley Parker to Tigres on loan for the season.
It is a sweet return to the United States for Kanu who excelled during her college years at the Southeastern Fire in Florida.
The Abia-born attacker also spent two years at Pensacola, also in Florida, before leaving for Spain’s Sevilla in 2020.
