Former Leicester City forward has “no regrets” over pledging allegiance to Nigeria

The Nigerian international pledged allegiance to play for Nigeria in March 2022, under the management of Augustine Eguavoen.

Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman is happy to have sworn loyalty to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Despite having the opportunity to play for England's national team, the Nigerian striker said that choosing to represent his country was the best choice for him.

The British-Nigerian attacker, 25, says he has no regrets about playing for Nigeria's senior side despite having appeared in a few games for England's Under-19, Under-20, and Under 21 teams.

Lookman was called to the Nigerian national team on March 25, 2022, under the guidance of Eguavoen Augustine. Since that time, he has made 4 appearances, including the World Cup qualifying match against Ghana and the international friendly against Portugal.

The Atalanta attacker has just one goal and two assists to his credit in four matches for the national squad.

But Lookman, speaking with L'Eco di Bergamo about his decisions, remarked, as reported by CalcioAtalanta, “No regrets, I made the right decision. This is my career and I play with Nigeria: I am proud of that. I was born in England, but my family's origins are Nigerian: I am equally connected to both countries.”

In less than two weeks, the international friendlies will return as Jose Peseiro's team gets ready for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau, which is scheduled to take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

The former striker for Leicester City, who has been brilliant for Gian Piero Gasperini's team, has scored 12 goals, leaving his countryman Victor Osimhen 4 goals beyond him. He might very well likely be included on the Portuguese manager's squad for the game.
