Euro wrap: Osimhen rises to new heights; forgettable day for Nigerian stars in the Premier League

A few Nigerian footballers were in action for their respective European clubs, and here is Soccernet.ng’s highlight of the most notable performances.

In the Italian Serie A, Victor Osimhen rewrote the record books as he scored his 21st goal across all competitions this season in Napoli’s 2-0 win at Empoli.

With his goal, the exciting Nigerian striker became the second-youngest player to score in eight straight Serie A games.

Super Eagles full-back Tyronne Ebuehi featured for 68 minutes for the hosts, Empoli, in the encounter.

While Osimhen celebrated and was celebrated in Italy, several Super Eagles stars were enduring a disappointing day in the English Premier League.

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi was in the Everton team that fell to an embarrassing 0-2 home loss to Aston Villa.

Paul Onuachu and Southampton fired blanks as Leeds secured all three points with a fine 1-0 win at Elland Road.

The involvement of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi from the start did not help Leicester City avoid a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the King Power Stadium.

Emmanuel Dennis was an unused substitute as Nottingham Forest succumbed to a 4-0 thrashing at West Ham United.

Over to the German Bundesliga, where Kevin Akpoguma saw every minute of action in Hoffenheim’s narrow 1-0 loss at home to Borussia Dortmund.

In the French Feminine Division, Super Falcons’ goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie kept a clean sheet to lead Paris FC to a crushing 3-0 victory over Rofiat Imuran’s Stade de Reims.

In Belgium, Yira Sor and Tolu Arokodare were involved as Genk snapped a two-game winless run with a straightforward 3-0 win over KV Oostende.

Victor Boniface netted his first league brace since moving to Belgium, but it was not enough for Union Saint-Gilloise as they stumbled to a 4-0 defeat at Westerlo.
