Euro wrap: Osimhen remains Europe’s best in 2023; Bassey, Plumptre impress in wins; Tolu tastes first Genk defeat

Soccernet.ng monitored several matches involving Nigerian players in the European circuit on Sunday and brings you the highlight of their impact

In the Italian Serie A, Victor Osimhen scored for the sixth consecutive league match as Napoli strolled past Cremonese 3-0 at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

Osimhen now has eight goals in Serie A this year, the most of any forward in the top five European leagues.

Still in Italy, Destiny Udogie scored the fastest goal in the top flight this season in Udinese’s 2-2 draw at home to Sassuolo.

Super Eagles forward Isaac Success and wingback Kingsley Ehizibue both featured for Udinese in the encounter.

Several Super Falcons stars flew the Nigerian flag proudly in the Spanish Primera Division. Gift Monday featured for Granadilla Tenerife in the goalless home draw against Alhama.
Rasheedat Ajibade was a second-half substitute as Atlético Madrid edged to a 1 – 0 win over Athletic Club.

But the best performance of the evening came from Toni Payne who netted a brace to inspire Sevilla to a crushing 3-0 victory away to Real Sociedad.

In La Liga, Samuel Chukwueze and Villarreal could not arrest their recent run of poor form as the Yellow Submarines succumbed to a 1-0 loss to league leaders Barcelona.

In the English Women’s Super League, Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre was immense in defence to help Leicester claim a 1-0 away win at Liverpool – her side’s second win of the season.

In France, Arsenal loanee Folarin scored his 15th goal of the season to overtake Kylian Mbappe and co on the goal chart, and power Reims to a 4-0 win over Troyes.

In the Eredivisie, Calvin Bassey was introduced from the bench at halftime and he repaid the manager’s trust by assisting Ajax’s second goal in the champions’ 3-1 come-back win at home to Waalwijk.

After joining from Amiens and scoring on his debut, Tolu Arokodare tasted his first defeat with KRC Genk as visiting Royal Antwerp made away with all three points with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the Cegeka Arena.

Nigerian fullback, Zaidu Sanusi was involved from start to finish as FC Porto carved out a memorable 2-1 win at the home of rivals Sporting Lisbon.
