Calvin Bassey has been an agent of criticism since his move to Amsterdam from Glasgow Rangers last summer.

Nigeria international Calvin Bassey has revealed that his team are in Germany solely for the victory against Union Berlin in their Europa League tie.

The Dutch side, currently sitting second in the Eredivisie League standings, was paired with the Berliners for the round-of-16 matchup.

Due to playing against the Germans in the match scheduled to hold tonight, Thursday, February 23, 2023, the Nigerian man who has faced criticism in the Netherlands will have another opportunity to disprove his critics.

It should be mentioned that the Super Eagles right-back may be giving a below-par performance for the Dutch club in other competitions since his summer transfer from Glasgow Rangers. Still, he has provided his teammates with two assists in the European tourney.

The match at Johan Cruijff ArenA ended in a 0-0 stalemate as the two teams could not break the tie. Following the tie, The Nigerian became one of the standout players with Ghanaians Mohammed Kudus.

Meanwhile, in a video posted on the Ajax FC social media website, the Nigerian reacted to a question from an interviewer on what the Ajax supporters may anticipate from the match.

He said, “We are here for the Job, and hopefully we can get the job done.”

Yet in response to the video, Union Berlin’s official page wrote: “Wait til it’s full 🙂 Welcome to Berlin.”

The 23-year-old expressed admiration at the stadium’s stands and said in the video that he had never seen anything like it before. He is looking forward to making history in the same stadium where Taiwo Awoniyi, his Super Eagles teammate and now-Nottingham Forest player, played.

John Heitinga’s team will move to the next round if they win at Stadion At der Alten Försterei, while a loss will send them packing and reduce their chances of winning three titles to two.
