AFCON U-20: Two subs help Ladan Bosso’s boys upset Congo in friendly

The Flying Eagles have won seven titles, making them the most successful team in the competition’s history.

Two Flying Eagles substitutes, Emmanuel Uchegbu, and Adams Olamilekan, were on target for Ladan Bosso’s men in their friendly tie against Congo.

The Flying Eagles boys recovered from behind to outclass the Small Leopards with 2 goals to 1 in a friendly match on Sunday evening.

Following their arrival last Friday in Casablanca, Morocco’s commercial and industrial capital, the Nigerian Under-20 team played a friendly exhibition match against the Central African side.

Amidst controlling the opening exchanges, the Flying Eagles trailed when Onianhue Salomon scored for the Congolese after 21 minutes.

After then, Bosso’s boys had many opportunities to tie the score but failed due to poor finishing.

In the 66th minute, Flying Eagles substitute Emmanuel Uchegbu leveled the tie with an outstanding solo effort.

After Emmanuel Njoku’s lovely pass, another replacement, Adams Olamilekan, scored the game-winning goal 16 minutes from time.

Before marching on to Egypt for their U-20 AFCON campaign on Friday, the seven-time African champions will play Central African Republic in another friendly on Wednesday.

The Flying Eagles’ first match is against Senegal, who finished second in the 2019 AFCON tournament, followed by matches against Egypt, a four-time winner, and Mozambique, a second debutant, on February 22 and 25, respectively.
