Osimhen has 15 goals to his name with the Super Eagles, In addition to smashing club goalscoring records.
The Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has revealed that the Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, will bring his winning mentality to the Super Eagles squad.
The Portuguese boss acknowledges that the goal poacher has been impressive for his club, in their Serie A title race in the 2022-23 season campaign.
The 24-year-old’s eventual Serie A title, he said, would, nevertheless, make a significant contribution to the winning attitude of the national team.
In 15 domestic league games for Luciano Spalletti’s team, Osimhen has scored 13 goals and provided three assists, including a brace against 11th-placed Juventus.
The former Venezuelan manager does, however, acknowledge the striker’s noticeable development and what he considers to be excellent play as the top scorer in the Serie A chart.
The manager underlines his wish for the former Lille attacker to win the Serie A title in his interview with Il Mattino di Napoli as reported by CalcioNapoli24.
“It’s an extraordinary thing. Because if you win in Naples, it is nicer than in places used to winning like Inter, Milan or Juventus. And in fact I hope he can win the Scudetto.” he said.
However, the manager believes that Osimhen winning the league title will instill a winning attitude in the team.
“From a national perspective, of course: because winning brings a winning mentality.” he added.
The boss goes on to say that the striker has excelled both on and off the field and has been a strong motivator in the dressing room.
“He is a leader. Thanks to his performance, he has been able to take over the locker room. Because he is a top player, but above all he is a great motivator. He always asks everyone to give their best.” he revealed.
Since winning the 2013 African Cup of Nations title, the Nigerian Super Eagles are without a trophy.
All attention will be on the forthcoming friendlies and qualifying games as a means of preparing for the big stage, albeit Peseiro will continue to burn candles in his quest to inspire Nigeria back to winning ways.
I’m just wondering why we should keep players that are not motivated to represent their nation. I think it’s high time we should start fishing for home based players that are genuinely willing to represent Nigeria. Mr Paseiro,I think you should follow the pattern of Westerhof in 90’s when he was recruiting players from the Home based teams. Nigeria is a footballing nation, there are talents greater than Okocha, who can play the role of midfield in Nigeria, we don’t have to rely solely on foreign based players. The NFF can set-up an audition without any prejudice or tribalism and we will produce a formidable and competent team ready to play their mind out. The music industry in Nigeria is thriving and making Nigeria proud across the globe. I think the NFF is yet to execute the right strategy to fish out competent and potential players. There are raw and hard core players, highly talented to represent the country. Let’s work to fish them out in the nation. Go to the slum, go to the cities, go to the rural areas and urban areas, every region in Nigeria or set up an audition to fish out competent players. I’m telling there are talented players who are ready
