The Toffees were demystified and mesmerized by Brighton on their own turf, and Iwobi feels a something need to change
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has urged his Everton teammates to be consistent with their performances after a 4-1 humiliation against Brighton on Tuesday.
Frank Lampard’s lads were coming off an impressive 0-0 result against Manchester last week. And they were looking to get all three points against Brighton, who lost to Arsenal in their first game of the year.
However, the night quickly became dreadful for the Merseysiders, as Brighton turned on the screws. Goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Evan Ferguson, Solomon March, and Pascal Gross sealed put Everton down four.
In the end, Demarai Gray’s stoppage-time penalty was just a consolation.
Iwobi failed to exert his presence in midfield, and his team missed that. The former Arsenal man believes he and his teammates have to do better if they want to win games.
“I don’t think confidence is the issue. We showed how we can play vs Man City. We can’t be one minute good one minute bad. We’ve got to be consistent,” Iwobi said as per Goal.
“The way we discussed in the changing room now we all want to fix it. I’m confident we can get ourselves out of this.”
The result leaves Everton in a precarious situation – in 16th place and in danger of falling into the relegation zone. Up next for them is an FA Cup fixture against in-form Manchester United.
Iwobi would look to spur his side to winning ways when they travel to Old Trafford.
