The French coach has outlined why the Super Eagles forward may not be suited to playing on the flank.

Girondins de Bordeaux coach, David Guion, has knocked off Josh Maja’s possibility of playing on the wing for The Girondins.

The Nigerian international, in the opinion of the French manager, is more effective whether playing as a supporting striker, a lone striker, or as a connection between the midfielders and the striker on the pitch.

However, the 24-year-old has played in this role in the most recent games the French team has played.

In 17 starts for the Ligue 2 team, Maja, who fills this position for the Scapular club, has scored 8 goals and provided 3 assists.

Guion said that Maja playing on the wing would not be a suitable option for him during a press conference before the Coupe de France match against Stade Rennais on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

“It would not be putting him in good conditions due to his qualities. On the side, there is a need for speed, liveliness,” As reported by Gironds4ever, he remarked.

However, he goes into further detail about the positions the Nigerian striker would be most suited for.

“Josh has other qualities than that. I see him more in an axial role and in the link between midfield and attack rather than on a side. Even if we can adapt it by returning a little, I think that its qualities are more striking in the axis”. The 55-year-old said.
