Nigeria head to the continental championship next year as winners of the regional tournament
Fifteen players of the Flying Eagles have been sent packing from the team camp as preparations gear up for the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
It would be recalled that Nigeria’s U20 team defeated Benin Republic 3-1 to win the WAFU Zone B competition in May.
The triumph sealed the Flying Eagles’ spot at next year’s continental championship to be hosted by Egypt.
Ahead of the competition, head coach Ladan Bosso invited 40 players to camp last Monday.
And after a week of training and three friendly matches, Bosso has decamped 15 players.
The veteran tactician has revealed that some of the players sent home had issues with injuries and documentation.
“Players with injuries are not accepted because the national team is not a rehabilitation centre,” Bosso told Brila FM. “So, go and finish your treatment and probably, you can meet us in January.
“So, I have given them that full break within the next two weeks. And those with passport issues, if you don’t have a passport, there is no way you can play in the national team.”
While Bosso has left the door open for the decamped players, the former United boss has invited new players to beef up the team.
Egypt will host the U-20 AFCON from February 18 to March 12, 2023.
