Super Eagles prospect closes on Genk move, set to overtake Onuachu as club’s second most expensive purchase

The Smurfs missed out on the Nigerian youngster in the summer and are pushing to complete a deal for him in the coming days

Belgian giants KRC Genk are closing in on signing Slavia Prague forward Yira Sor and could announce the completion of the transfer as soon as January 1, the opening day of the winter transfer window.

Excellent in Europe last season, Yor has been on the radar of Racing Genk since the summer. The Belgians were willing to break their transfer record to secure the Nigerian youngster.

But negotiations crashed at the crucial stages and Yira Sor stayed back in Prague.

Still, Genk have enjoyed a flying start to the league campaign, thanks largely to the goals of Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu.

Onuachu has scored 13 goals in 14 appearances to power Genk to the top of the Belgian Pro League with a seven-point advantage over second-place Union Saint-Gilloise.

Now considered title favourites, Genk are in search of additional attacking quality, especially with the unfortunate injury suffered by Luca Oyen.

And the Smurfs have decided to make a fresh attempt for Super Eagles prospect, Yira Sor.

And according to HBVL, Slavia Prague have accepted a €6.5 million offer for Sor. The 22-year-old striker has reportedly landed in Genk where he is to undergo the mandatory physical and medical tests.

The deal is expected to be completed and announced within the next few days.

If the deal is sealed, Yira Sor will become the second most expensive player Genk ever signed, surpassing compatriot Paul Onuachu. Onuachu arrived from FC Midtjylland for six million euros three years ago.

Genk’s most expensive purchase remains Theo Bongonda who joined the Blue-White from SV Zulte Waregem for €7 million in 2019.
