Nigerian sports enthusiasts respond to Addo's announcement that he would step down as Ghana's coach.

Sports fans in Nigeria express mixed reactions following the announcement of Ghanaian coach Otto Addo, who let the Black stars to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In a match that finished in a 1-1 tie at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja, Addo led the West African team that earned their spot in the world cup with a double-counted goal against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Following Ghana's Friday World Cup elimination, the 47-year-old reaffirmed his resignation and looked to the future of his country's football.

The boss, after Ghana's exit, revealed his decision:

“It was always clear that I would stop after the World Cup. My family and I see our role in Germany. I like my life at (Borussia) Dortmund (where he works as a talent coach, and wants to carry on there.” he said.

The coach said that his choice was influenced by his family.

“This is a family decision,” he said.

Some sports enthusiasts responded to his departure by sharing their thoughts.

A supporter commented:

Super eagles coaches will never resign. They prefer to die there😂😂😂

Another sports enthusiast states:

9ja coach no dey ever resign

In jest, a fan wrote:

He actually did what he was hired to do😂. Get Ghana to qualify for the world cup thereafter, he became clueless😂😂😂

A supporter was not pleased with the coach's resignation:

The dude will rather be an assistant than a national team coach 😢 he's not confident, always making panic subs

On the other side, some sports enthusiasts believe the Ghanaian manager made the right choice in deciding to retire.

A reader wrote:

He did well within a short period. Kudos to him. 👏👏👏

Another wrote:

Respect to him. He did well ❤️

One submitted:

He did his best, I guess🙌

He would have become the manager, according to another supporter, and done so bravely:

He don try. Would have courageously continued, thou. he wrote.

However, Telugustop.com reports that despite the Black Stars' defeat to Uruguay at the World Cup currently taking place in Qatar, Ghanaian football supporters believe that the future of their team is bright.

But it is time now for Ghana national team to left two brothers off Ayew in the national team squad. Coaches or authority select youth and young talent instead of Ayew brothers which discourage youth and talent players it is totally Burden for the national team. We love Ghanaian national team but we are disappointed with these two Ayew brothers it is too old and have no any means to help the team than disappointment

His favourite formation of 4-2-3-1 actually made the team to defend more than attack something that to large extent contributed to their early exit.

It made the lone striker Inaki William a mere peripheral figure frequently roaming the pitch with no one to feed him with passes something that makes his call up completely meaningless.

Also it’s the time for Ayew bros and the likes of Thomas Partey and Daniel Amatey to retire from the national team and leave space to the talented young boys to take over.

Otherwise, Black Stars tried their best but unfortunately their best wasn’t enough because you can’t play defensively in the huge tournament like World Cup and expect to excell, this is quite impossible. Otherwise, all the best Mr. Otto Addo.

Thank you and best of luck in your future endeavours, Coach Otto Addo !
I feel this amiable and calm coach did his best for the Ghanaian team at Qatar WC 2022. It’s actually time for the Ghanaian football experts to draw conclusions from this WC and finally make corrections to their constant mistakes at this global event. Ayew brothers are just average players, not quite good enough for a WC team selection . The Ghanaian team should be more geared towards playing a more aggressive, attacking and forward-thinking style of football than what was displayed. How can you start a very crucial WC match with a defensive style of play?Besides, the players for some unclear reasons completely lack not only moral, but also focus and agility! Frankly, this team needs to be completely overhauled and let a new coach pick up a new team from the scratch ! Of course, most of the young players should be considered for selection in this new team- Williams, Kudus and a few others.
All the best , Team Ghana!
