England has performed outstandingly throughout the World Cup but they were unable to get beyond the French team.

Nigerian fans have rushed to their social media platforms to express their emotions on the match result between England and France.

It should be recalled that the Three Lions were shown the exit door by Didier Deschamps’ men in the Quarter-final tie at Al Bayt Stadium on Saturday.

A long-range strike from outside the box by Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud’s header ended England’s 2022 World Cup campaign.

However, after the 17th-minute lead, Harry Kane pulled one back from the spots before the former Arsenal forward pounced on Antoine Griezman’s cross to score advantage to make it 2-1.

Harry Kane had a clear opportunity to level the goal on the scoresheet, but his kick from the penalty spot went wide.

The outcome of the game, however, elicited conflicting emotions from some Nigerian supporters, who felt that Gareth Southgate’s team had been overhyped, while others disagreed.

A pundit wrote:

“One word for the overhyped Lions. ‘It will NEVER come home.’”

An opposing sports fan responded:

“Bro, talk more about your country. Do you even have a league? I’m a Nigerian, but trolling other countries when yours is the worst is funny.” he wrote.

“They’re a good team with good player’s. Rest✊” he added.

Another supporter who agrees that the English squad wasn’t overrated wrote:

“I don’t think they are overhyped. They had a good game. It just didn’t go their way. The team is solid. A final appearance in the Euros and getting knocked out by one of the tournament favourites, 🇫🇷, wasn’t a bad one”

Another supporter wrote:

“They were not overhyped. They had a very good game and were the better side for the majority parts of the game. The better team lost.”

On the other hand, some fans feel the three lions were indeed overhyped and could not keep calm about it.

A laughing Emoji was used in a comment.

“Overhyped indeed the joy in my heart that it’s not coming home.” 🤣🤣🤣

Another ardent sports fan wrote:

“Too much hype”

The three lions were jokingly referred to as “Sleeping lions” by another enthusiast.

The Frenchmen will face the Moroccan side in the Last-4 tie.
