Confirmed: Super Eagles hopeful pens long-term deal at Genk

The Super Eagles hopeful had a decent stay at Slavia Prague, but he has moved on to another territory

Super Eagles hopeful Yira Sor has joined Belgian Jupiler League high-flyers KRC Genk on a five-year deal.

Sor just moved to Europe in February last year, signing for Czech Republic side Banik Ostrava. He then joined former Czech Republic 1st Liga champions Slavia Prague in January this year.

The 22-year-old right-winger impressed during his time in Prague, especially in the Europa Conference League. Sor scored six goals for Slavia Prague on the continent last season.

However, this season, the former Nigeria Under-20 international has not gotten much playtime majorly because of injuries.

Sor had been heavily linked with a move away from Slavia Prague, and Genk was touted as his likely destination.

All the speculations have now been put to an end, as Genk have confirmed that they have signed Sor from Slavia Prague. The fleet-footed forward joins the Smurfs for €4.5million till July 2027.

The former Nigeria youth international becomes the second Nigerian player at Genk after Paul Onuachu.

Genk have had a phenomenal start to the season. They sit at the summit of the Jupiler League, seven points above second-placed Royale Union SG.

With the addition of Sor, the Smurfs now have a quick, pacy, and tricky forward.

Sor played for Nigeria at youth level, and if he can step up his game and prove his quality, it would only be a matter of time before he gets invited to the Super Eagles.
