Two Super Eagles’ targets battle for Crystal Palace’s Goal of the Month award

Two Super Eagles’ targets battle for Crystal Palace’s Goal of the Month award

The Eagles enjoyed a fantastic October, winning three consecutive matches in front of their home fans at the Selhurst Park

Two players of Nigerian descent Eberechi Oluchi Eze and Malcolm Ebiowei have seen their goals in October selected among the nominees for Crystal Palace's Goal of the Month award.

Anglo-Nigerian midfielder Ebere Eze has two entries for the award, which include the winning goals in similar 2-1 wins over Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Former Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei also has a shot at the award thanks to his spectacular effort in Crystal Palace u21's 1-1 draw at Arsenal on the last day of October.

Is Ebere Eze finally out of Super Eagles' reach?

Born in England to Nigerian parents, Eberechi Eze has featured for England's u20 and u21 national teams.

The 24-year-old, however, remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles.

The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, has never hidden the desire to convince the playmaker to switch his international allegiance to the three-time African champions.

A new twist was, however, introduced earlier in the week when England manager Gareth Southgate included Eze in the 55-man comprehensive list of players for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later in November.

Southgate is expected to name a final 26-man squad that will head for the tournament on November 15 – six days before their tournament opener against Iran.

It would be a surprise, though, for Eze to make the World Cup cut, given the huge competition for places in Southgate's squad.

Should Eze make the World Cup squad, however, it would be shutting the doors on the chances of ever seeing him wear the Super Eagles kit.
