“They meddled into his business”- Former Super Eagles stunner points accusatory finger at NFF over Eguavoen and Rohr’s sack

The Super Eagles have had some decent players over the years, but they have been unable to convert that firepower into success

Former Super Eagles forward Daniel Amokachi has faulted the Nigeria Football Federation for meddling with Super Eagles coaches' decisions.

Franco-German tactician Gernot Rohr was appointed as Nigeria's coach in 2016, but he was sacked in December 2021 – three weeks before the last Nations Cup in Cameroon, and Augustine Eguavoen was quickly drafted in as his replacement.

Eguavoen had a decent start to life with the Super Eagles, but it fell apart for him in the round of 16 after they suffered a 1-0 loss to Tunisia.

The NFF kept faith in him, leaving him to lead the team to the World Cup qualifier against Ghana in March. Unfortunately, Eguavoen was unable to lead Nigeria to a World Cup berth after losing out to Ghana on away goals.

Eguavoen was promptly sacked after he failed to qualify for the World Cup, and Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro was appointed in May.

Former Super Eagles winger Amokachi believes Rohr's dismissal came at the wrong time. He also feels that things could have been different if the NFF had allowed Eguavoen to take important decisions.

“I don't think Gernot Rohr was the kind of coach that Nigeria should have employed, I'm not a fan of his tactics,” Amokachi said as per Rubbin' Minds.

“He was let go at the wrong time, and they brought in Augustine Eguavoen. He had a good run, but they did not trust him enough to give him enough time or to let him choose his own staff.

“They meddled in his business, and we later heard from insiders that we did not make the World Cup because the coach already told some players that they were going to start against Ghana the evening before the game.

“However, when the lineup for the game came out, it was a different list. That tells you that there was some interference from certain people.”

Peseiro has been in charge of six game with Nigeria, and he has won only two. The latest result was a 4-0 thrashing against Portugal.

The Portuguese tactician is already treading a thin line, and if he continues at his current rate, he could get the sack.

I believe the so called ex Super Eagle Players like Amokachi, Odagami and NFF should accept responsibility for Rohr sack and consequently leading to Nigeria missing out at the world cup 2022. My advice to them is shut your big mouth and this is what you wanted.
