The Red Devils are not short of quality upfront, but the numbers just are not adding up
Manchester United are the latest club to be linked with a move for Nigeria and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
As per The Metro, Man United manager Erik Ten Hag sees Osimhen as the ideal long-term replacement for Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
With Ronaldo set to leave Old Trafford in the coming months, United’s Dutch boss will need to bring in a quality forward to complement the efforts of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
High on Erik Ten Hag’s shopping list, it has been revealed, is Victor Osimhen, the exciting forward fueling Napoli’s charge towards a first Serie A title in over 30 years.
Osimhen is Serie A’s top goalscorer with nine goals, and the 23-year-old recently became Nigeria’s all-time top goalscorer in the Italian top flight with 32 goals.
However, Manchester United are not the only suitor interested in Osimhen.
Real Madrid are also known admirers, with manager Carlo Ancelotti a big fan of the Super Eagles star.
United and Real Madrid may need to battle Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Osimhen, with the powers-that-be at Spurs convinced that the Nigerian striker is the perfect buy should fan favourite Harry Kane leave the club.
Osimhen joined Napoli from French side LOSC Lille for an African record transfer fee in 2020.
It would, however, take another record transfer fee in the region of 100 million euros to convince Napoli to part with their most-prized asset.
