The Peace boys had a foot in the group stages of CAF’s elite club competition, but a call from the referee sent them packing
Nigerian club Plateau United were knocked out of the CAF Champions League after a 1-0 loss against Esperance de Tunis.
Plateau United secured a first-leg advantage when they beat Esperance 2-1 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Lagos.
However, they had a tougher task when they traveled to Tunisia to take on Esperance at the Stade Olympique de Rades.
The Nigerians were on the back foot from kickoff, as Esperance pushed hard to score. Nonetheless, the Peace boys held on strong, locking their defense line.
Goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso was in top shape blocking everything that came his way.
Unfortunately for Plateau United, they were undone by the Egyptian referee Ibrahim Nourendinne, who awarded a penalty for a foul outside the box.
Yep. The 'so-called' penalty awarded against Plateau United. Sad stuff #CAFCLpic.twitter.com/wcRI48LdRs

Ben Rhomdane was on hand to finish from the spot and hand Esperance the 1-0 victory. It ended 2-2 on aggregate, but the Tunisians qualified for the group stages because of the away goal rule.
