Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has inked a new two-year deal with FC Porto that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2027.
Sanusi is in his third season with Porto, having joined the Blue and Whites from Santa Clara in August 2020 on a five-year contract.
Four months after arriving at Invicta, Sanusi won his first trophy with Porto as he featured from start to finish as Porto defeated Benfica 2-0 in the Super Cup.
The 2021/22 season was even more memorable for Sanusi, as the former Mirandela defender, on May 7, scored the goal that brought Porto a crucial win at Benfica and a 30th league title.
Last Tuesday, Sanusi came off the bench to net a well-aimed header against Bayer Leverkusen that helped Porto to seal their first UEFA Champions League victory of the season. It was the left-back’s first Champions League strike of the season.
Having been linked with a move to the English Premier League in the summer, Sanusi insists he is delighted to commit to staying with the reigning Portuguese champions.
“I am very happy to have renewed my contract with FC Porto until 2027,” the 25-year-old full-back told Porto’s official website. “It is very important for me.”
Commenting on his first European goal of the season against Bundesliga campaigners Leverkusen, Sanusi said, “It was a very important goal for me, for the club, for the President, and it made me very happy.
“I am even more fulfilled for having renewed today. I hope to score many more goals and celebrate even more victories here.”
Sanusi has made 91 appearances for Porto in all competitions since making his debut against SC Braga.
