The Super Eagles striker was expected to make his return at Cremona, but his boss has other ideas

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is not part of Napoli’s squad for their Serie A fixture against Cremonese on Sunday.

Napoli squad for the away fixture at Cremonese

Osimhen has been recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained in Napoli’s 4-1 victory against Liverpool on September 7th. Because of the injury, the 23-year-old Super hitman has missed the Partenopeans’ previous five games.

However, Osimhen has not been missed as Napoli have been firing on all cylinders, with Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Simeone in the form of their lives.

The duo has scored a combined eight goals in Napoli’s last five games.

Osimhen was expected to return to the bench for Napoli on Sunday. However, Spalletti is not ready to have his star attacker yet as the Nigerian hitman was left out of the squad.

The Partenopeans’ gaffer wants Osimhen to be fully fit before he returns to action to prevent a relapse.

“We can’t risk Victor Osimhen,” Spalletti said at the pre-match presser.

“We want to have him back but he needs to be in top condition. He needs more time training at a high intensity.”

Napoli sit pretty at the summit of Serie A. In fact, they have been blazing this season, rendering scathing defeats to all comers.

A win against struggling Cremonese, who are 19th on the table would be expected for the Partenopeans. However, a surprise from Dessers and his teammates can not be ruled out.
