Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo made his competitive debut for Aris Thessaloniki in the club’s 2-1 win over Ionikos in a Greek Super League gameweek eight fixture on Saturday.
Spotting jersey number thirteen, Etebo featured from start to finish as goals from former Arsenal man Gervinho and ex-Watford star Andre Gray helped Aris to their first win in three games.
In the Turkish Super Lig, Nigerian stars Henry Onyekuru and David Akintola were on target as Adana Demirspor cruised to a 4-1 victory at Kasimpasa.
Akintola doubled Adana’s lead in the 40th minute, three minutes after Belhanda opened the scoring for the visitors.
Kasimpasa reduced the deficit through Bahoken ten minutes after the break.
But Onyekuru struck soon after to restore the visitors’ two-goal advantage. Senegal forward N’diaye added gloss to the scoreline with Adana’s fourth goal four minutes from time.
Currently on loan from Olympiakos, Onyekuru now has three goals in ten games for Adana Demirspor. Last season in Greece, the Super Eagles winger failed to register a goal in 14 league matches.
Goalscoring defender Chidozie Awaziem helped Hajduk Split keep a clean sheet in their 1-0 win at HNK Gorica in the Czech Republic top flight.
Awaziem failed to add to his three-goal haul this term, but Marko Livaja’s stoppage-time winner earned all three points at stake for Hajduk Split.
In the English Championship, Samuel Kalu made his first appearance of the season for Watford as the Hornets ran out 2-1 winners over Norwich City.
Kalu was introduced in the fifth minute of added time, long after first-half goals from Louza and Davis goals for Watford had overshadowed Sargent’s strike for City.
Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong played the entire duration of the match while goalkeeper Maduka Okoye watched from the Watford bench.
