Quique Setien just took over the reins at Villarreal, and Chukwueze ensured that he impressed in his first game
Super Eagles forward Samuel Samuel Chukwueze scored the first goal for Villarreal in their 2-2 home draw against Hapoel Beer Sheva.
Villarreal had already confirmed their spot in the knockout rounds of the Europa Conference League two weeks ago, but new coach Quique Setien was not taking any prisoners in his first game in charge of the Yellow Submarine.
The former Barca coach named a strong lineup that included Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze.
Villarreal and Hapoel Beer Sheva were ineffective in the first half. The Yellow Submarine were the better side, but they failed to take advantage.
However, the game sparked to life in the second half. Toner Hemed gave the visitors the lead from the spot in the 47th minute.
Villarreal then rallied back with a beautiful goal from Chukwueze. The Nigerian forward got on the end of a ball on the edge of the box and fired a first-time shot that went into the bottom left corner.
Arnaut Danjuma then put Villarreal in front in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, the Yellow Submarine could not hold on to their lead, as Shalom Yehezkel scored a late equalizer in the 78th minute.
Chukwueze had a decent game, he recorded 60 touches, two dribbles, and three tackles.
The results leaves Villarreal with 13th points, and it means that they would qualify for the knockout rounds as group leaders.
