Nigeria’s Super Falcons were humbled in the first leg of their American tour of the United States

With a good experience in the bag for Falconets’ stars Deborah Abiodun, Oluwatosin Demehin and Rofiat Imuran, the Super Falcons were thrashed 4-0 by the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT).

The United States fired first as early as the 4th minute with Chiamaka Nnadozie called to action.

The Nigerians threatened in the 8th minute through Ify Onumonu as the attacker was hurt in the move and got medical attention.

The Americans opened scoring in the 13th minute through attacker Smith.

Gift Monday also tested the American goalie, Alyssa Naeher in the 22nd minute with a long range effort but it was calmly saved.

Star skipper of the USWNT, Alex Morgan came close to adding the Americans’ third but Nnadozie was alert to the danger and a follow up by Lindsey Horan was denied by the woodwork.

Nnadozie was soon called to action again as she made another brilliant stop four minutes before the break to deny the US of the third goal.

Smith completed her brace for the night when she scored the third for the Americans in the 47th minute to give them their third. Nigeria trailed 3-0 into the break against a more experienced and better opponent.

Amanda Mbadi, Rofiat Imuran and Nicole Payne all came on in the second half for Deborah Abiodun, Gift Monday and Uchenna Kanu who started the game.

The US got their fourth goal of the game through Morgan’s penalty.

The Falcons held the Americans off for the rest of the game as they gained valuable experience. The second leg of their tour will be played Tuesday, September 6th in Washington DC.
