All of the top five leagues in Europe brought business to a close on September 1, but the transfer window in Turkey remains open for another few days
Turkish Super Lig champions Trabzonspor are the latest club to join the race for Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong.
The Black Sea Storms will have to battle with Turkish rivals Fenerbahce for the signature of the Watford FC centre-back.
William Troost-Ekong remains with the Hornets after Cremonese and Bologna reportedly tried to lure him away from the Vicarage Road on transfer deadline day.
But the two Italian Serie A clubs could not complete a deal for the former Udinese ace before the transfer window in England and Italy slammed shut on September 1.
The transfer window in Turkey will, however, not close until September 8, leaving Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce as the leading candidates for the former Bursaspor star.
Working under the recommendation of head coach Abdullah Avcı, Trabzonspor are looking to reinforce their title-winning defence with Troost-Ekong.
According to Fotomac, the reigning Turkish champions want to take the 29-year-old defender on a season-long loan deal, with an option to buy outright in 2023.
Currently out of favour at Watford, William Troost-Ekong has a contract with the Golden Boys until June 2025.
