Oghenekaro Etebo set to join three-time Super League champions – report

The Nigeria international is on his way to Greece, where he will play football for the remainder of the season

English Championship side Stoke City and Greece top division club Aris Thessaloniki FC have agreed on terms regarding the transfer of Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo.

The Nigerian midfield dynamo spent last year on loan at Watford, but injuries reduced his impact for the Golden Boys. The former Warri Wolves maestro only appeared in nine Premier League games for the Hornets during a largely forgettable campaign.

Etebo remains surplus to requirement at Stoke City, though, and the former Getafe man has been looking for a move away from the Potters.

Succour appears to have finally arrived from Greece, with Aris reportedly interested in securing the services of the 26-year-old.

The deal is expected to scale through once Etebo agrees to personal terms with the Yellow Blacks, three-time Greece Championship winners.

Aris finished third in the Greek Super League last season to book their spot in the second qualifying round of the  Europa Conference League – the continent’s third-tier club competition.

But after edging Belarus’s Gomel in that round, the Greeks were knocked out of the third qualifying round by Israeli opposition, Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Since leaving Nigeria in 2015, Etebo has played in Portugal, Spain, England, and Turkey. This would, however, be the first time he signs for a Greek club.
