It is a battle of first versus second in the Turkish Super Lig this weekend, with two Nigerians likely to be involved
A Galatasaray fan has pleaded with Super Eagles winger Henry Onyekuru not to score for his club Adana Demirspor when the two early-season high-fliers face off this weekend.
Turkish Super Lig side Adana Demirspor will host Istanbul giants Galatasaray at the Yeni Adana Stadyumu on Saturday, September 1.
It promises to be a cracking encounter with Adana Demirspor first on the league table with 16 points. At the same time, Galatasaray are a close second on the same points but with an inferior goal difference.
It is not yet clear if Henry Onyekuru will be available for the game as the former Monaco man withdrew due to injury from Nigeria’s friendly meeting with Algeria on Tuesday.
But everyone in Galatasaray knows what damage Onyekuru can wreak when fit and available.
The Nigeria international had three different spells on loan with the Yellow-and-Reds and was close to joining the club permanently on more than one occasion.
With Galatasaray, Onyekuru scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 71 matches. The 25-year-old winger won the league and cup double with Galatasaray in 2019.
And aware that Onyekuru would be one of the danger men for the Blue Lightnings, a Gala fan begged Onyekuru, when they met in the subway, not to find the net on Saturday.
“Henry, no goal, okay. Thank you,” the Galatasaray supporter said in mixed Turkish and English to a relaxed Onyekuru.
Already this term, Onyekuru has contributed four goals (two goals, two assists) in seven games for Adana Demirspor.
Demirspor will go clear at the top of the league table with a win over the more-fancied Galatasaray.
Onyekuru is on a season-long loan deal from Greek giants Olympiacos.
