Confirmed: Real Sociedad sign Super Eagles striker

The Super Eagles star’s future has been in the balance in recent months, but now he can focus on the job ahead

Spanish Laiga side Real Sociedad have confirmed the signing of Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar from Almeria.

Umar was one of the best performers in the Laliga Smartbank last season, scoring 18 goals in 36 appearances in the run-up to Rojiblancos’ Smartbank triumph.

The Super Eagles star has been one of the most consistent strikers in Spain, and he has attracted a lot of interest from some of Europe’s big boys.

Villarreal, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund, and Newcastle have all been linked to the 25-year-old hitman.

However, Real Sociedad have confirmed that they have swooped in for the Nigerian striker.

Los Txuri-Urdin lost their talisman Alexander Isak to Newcastle this summer in a mega transfer of around €65million.

However, they have reinforced their forward line with the pacy and strong Nigeria international. The deal is believed to be worth €25million plus add-ons. And it is also expected to be at least a four-year contract.

Umar has started his first Laliga campaign on a great note, scoring twice in three games. And he would look to take that form to the Anoeta.

He becomes the second Nigeria to sign for Real Sociedad after Mitiu Adepoju.
