Sabastine the heroine as Falconets defeat France in pulsating U-20 World Cup game

Esther Onyenezide scored one of the best goals of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup so far as the Falconets progressed to the next round

For more than an hour, the Falconets searched for the vital winner against South Korea and it took opportunism and some dose of technical brilliance to get the match winner.

Mercurial midfielder Onyenezide had proven to be one of the bright spots of the team in the game as her passing and combination play stood out.

While the South Koreans can blame their fate on hard luck and the quality of Oyono in the Nigerian goal, they eventually succumbed to the genius of the FC Robo midfielder.

Once Onyenezide’s shot hit the back of the net, the speakers in Alajuela, venue of the game blasted Nigerian musician, Kizz Daniel’s “Buga”.

Buga is one of the biggest songs out of Nigeria in recent time and has enjoyed a global rave since its release.

What a strike by Falconets Onyenezide, what a celebration by the team, the moment ‘BuGa’ by @KizzDaniel went off the speakers of the Estadio Alajuela Morera Soto in Costa Rica. Great win the Nigerian team who have qualified for the qfinals. Naija to the World! #soarfalconets pic.twitter.com/2v8OzUYC6e

Meaning “Show off”, Buga has become the Nigerian response to victory, shown by raising shoulders and widening the chest.

The jubilant players also played the song on their way back to the hotel as they picked Nigeria’s ticket to the quarterfinal.

The Nigerians will hope to seal their group leadership when they face Canada on Wednesday as they push to conquer the globe for the first time.

Nigeria has finished second twice at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
