Transfer: Galatasaray table final offer for one-time Super Eagles forward

The Yellow and Reds are interested in signing the striker who propelled Trabzonspor to a historic league title last term

Galatasaray have made a last-ditch attempt at signing Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme, says reports from Turkey.

Nwakaeme has been without a club since leaving Trabzonspor at the end of last season when his contract expired.

The 33-year-old was one of the most important figures for the Black Sea Storm as they beat all-comers to win their first Super Lig title in three decades.

But the one-cap Super Eagles forward failed to agree to a contract extension with Trabzonspor, forcing him to leave as a free agent.

Galatasaray have emerged as the leading candidate for his signature, with the club looking to boost its attacking options.

Okan Buruk’s men have struggled for goals this term, with 37-year-old Frenchman Bafétimbi Gomis the only Gala player to have found the net after three league games.

Their miserly return in front of the goal could change, however, if Gala can convince Nwakaeme to join the club.

The Nigerian forward was one of the most effective players in the Turkish elite division last season, contributing 13 goals and ten assists in 30 games.

But Galatasaray have not had a breakthrough in talks with Nwakaeme, despite repeated attempts to secure his signature.

And according to Sporx, Gala have tabled a final take-it-or-leave-it offer before Nwakaeme and are expecting his signature.

Galatasaray have reportedly offered a one-year contract with an option of another year and a salary of €1.1 million a year.

In four years in Turkey, Nwakaeme have shown his mastery of the Super Lig, netting 41 goals and supplying 36 assists in 120 matches.
