The Blues’ practice match on Wednesday evening followed their fine victory over Pafos last week
Empoli FC continued their perfect preseason form with a 12-1 humiliation of the club’s Primavera team in a match played at the training pitch of the Carlo Castellani Stadium on Wednesday.
Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi, who joined the Blues on a permanent transfer from Benfica this summer, started at full-back.
And the 26-year-old Nigerian was among the goalscorers as Paolo Zanetti’s men took a 6-0 lead into the halftime break.
Swedish forward of Nigerian descent Emmanuel Ekong also got his name on the scoresheet.
Six more goals followed for Empoli’s senior team after the interval, while the youth side got their consolation goal from the penalty spot. Young Italian striker Renzi made no mistake from 11 yards for Antonio Buscè’s Primavera.
Wednesday’s win continues Empoli’s perfect outing in preseason. Before their latest victory, Gli Azzurri had triumphed in the four matches they had played.
Zanetti’s men started with an 11-0 humbling of lowly Calcio Castelfiorentino and followed It up by discarding Seravezza 3-0 on July 19.
Empoli recorded an even more impressive 1-0 victory over Turkish Super Lig champions Trabzonspor on July 25. The Blues then soared 2-1 past Pafos from Cyprus three days later.
Next up for Empoli is a Coppa Italia face-off with Spal at the Stadio Carlo Castellani on August 6, where Ebuehi will aim to make his competitive debut.
And on the 14th, the Nigeria international will likely make his Serie A bow for Empoli when they make the trip to the Stadio Alberto Picco to clash with Spezia.
