The young Nigerian descent has taken the French top flight by storm since joining on a temporary deal from Arsenal a few weeks ago
Folarin Balogun showed his predatory goalscoring instincts again as he scored FC Reims’ only goal in their impressive 1-1 draw at Strasbourg on Sunday.
The on-loan Arsenal forward did well to steady himself and scoop a simple finish just over the line to net an 82nd-minute equaliser for the Red and White. Alexander Djiku had given the home side the lead in first-half stoppage time.
Balogun’s strike is his third in as many games for Reims in Ligue 1.
The goal sends Balogun into the French first division record books, making the young forward the first player to score in his first three Ligue 1 games since 1975.
On his Reims’ debut on August 7, Folarin got his side’s consolation goal in Reims’ 4-1 thrashing at Marseille.
The 21-year-old was also on the scoresheet as Reims succumbed to a 2-4 home loss to Clermont Foot last weekend.
His goals have, however, not translated to victories for Reims as the coach Óscar García-tutored team remains without a win in three games.
Nonetheless, Balogun will be quietly pleased with his performance so far for his new club, having scored three of their four league goals so far.
Last year while on loan at Middlesbrough, Balogun only managed three goals in 18 Championship appearances.
