The Super Eagles hopeful looked as though he was set for a big move to the Serie A champions, but the transfer seems to have hit a snag
Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika may have to wait till next season before he can seal a big move away from Midtjylland, as his club has rejected a €4million bid from AC Milan for his services.
Onyedika has been explosive for Midtjylland since he stepped into the team last season. The FC Ebedei product was recalled from his season-long loan deal at Fredericia to replace compatriot Frank Onyeka who departed for Brentford.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder fit into the horses’ midfield seamlessly and was one of their best players last season. Onyedika was even voted as the best young player for last season.
Italian Serie A giants AC Milan are in the market for a midfielder after Franck Kessie left at the expiration of his contract in July. There were strong reports that the Rossoneri has identified Onyedika as a viable replacement, and had already submitted a €5million bid.
However, according to reports from Tipsbladet, Midtjylland have rejected the offer insisting on at least €7.5million for their star midfielder.
Midtjylland’s strong stance has prompted the Milan giants to look elsewhere for cheaper talents.
Bordeaux’s Jean Onana and Wolfsburg’s Aster Vranckx as potential targets.
If Milan seal transfers for any of these players, Onyedika may just have to wait till the summer before he leaves Danish shores.
