Leicester vs. Brentford: Everything Kelechi Iheanacho said about the Foxes’ first Premier League match of the season

After weeks of vacation and preseason, the Foxes kick off the 2022-2023 campaign with a home clash against the Bees

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has shared his thoughts about Leicester City’s readiness as the new Premier League campaign starts this weekend.

There have not been many changes at Leicester, with the Foxes welcoming no new player at the King Power Stadium.

And the only departure was long-serving Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who left for Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.

Brendan Rodgers’ men host Brentford on Sunday, a team they beat home and away last season.

And in an interview with the club’s official website, Iheanacho explains how the Foxes have prepared, their opposition, and the confidence they want to take into the new season.

Below is the transcript of the interview.

LCFC: About Leicester City’s work in preseason

Iheanacho: We are feeling good. It’s been a long preseason. We’ve been really working hard. We’ve enjoyed it as well. We are ready now. We’ve been running a lot. I think we’re ready to go.

On preseason coming early in the summer?

Sometimes, it’s long; sometimes, it’s short because of so many things in between. International football is another, honestly. We are happy to be back.

About Leicester’s first league match of the season against Brentford

They are a good side. Everyone is working hard. We know what to expect from them. Maybe they will be a bit different now, but we know what to expect. So, we have to be ready. They are preparing as well, and we are preparing. You know how the Premier League is; it is tough. No game is easy. We have to be ready to face them. And hopefully, we get the three points.

Leicester beat Brentford in both games last season. On taking confidence from that

Yeah, we can take confidence from that. But that’s last season. So, this season is going to be totally different. As I said before, we have to be ready and prepared. So, we have to go out there and play our football with confidence. We are at home. So we need to attack the game and defend as well. And I think we’ll get through.

On whether it is good to have the first game at home

First game at home, get a good start, get the three points and be ready for the next games. But it’s going to be hard. It’s going to be hard. It’s not always easy. They are also coming to win as well. They are not coming to joke around. So, we need to take it serious and make sure we win our first game and get the win at home and get the confidence to go on and win the other games.
