With the Premier League kickstarting already, Chelsea are still short in the central defense role with only two senior centre back players in the squad
Chelsea have submitted a £70m proposal to Leicester for Wesley Fofana but the Foxes have rebuffed them and are holding out for more.
Brendan Rodgers is also believed to be adamant on keeping Fofana and James Maddison who has been linked with a move to Newcastle after Leicester rejected a bid earlier in the window.
Fofana is in favour of a move to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea only having Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly to call on as the senior centre backs in the team while Malanga Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah are the younger defenders, albeit not yet dependable.
Chelsea see a combination of the present and the future in Fofana who is looking to gatecrash France’s World Cup party and sees a Chelsea move as significant to that.
What has Chelsea resorted to?
According to Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are not giving up and are determined to go back for the Frenchman.
The player has also stated his readiness to move to Chelsea just one season after suffering a nasty fracture that kept him out of games for a long term.
The former Saint Etienne man is one of the most highly-rated young centre backs in Europe.
