“It’d be the deal of the century” – Chiariello on Super Eagles star’s potential move to the Premier League

Nigeria’s most valuable player at the moment could swap the Italian top flight for the most glamorous league on planet earth

Italian football pundit Umberto Chiariello is convinced that Victor Osimhen would complete the ‘deal of the century’ should he seal a move to Manchester United.

With only a few days to the end of the summer transfer window, Osimhen is back at the centre of the rumour mill.

Reports suggest the Super Eagles striker could leave Naples and head to Manchester United in a deal believed to be worth more than 100 million euros.

Aside from the cash transfer, Napoli could also welcome Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is believed to be behind the operation as he seeks to get the former Real Madrid star back to playing in the UEFA Champions League.

Football analyst Umberto Chiariello is bent toward Napoli keeping Osimhen for at least one more year.

But the confessed Napoli fan reveals Il Partenopei would gain more by bringing in huge cash, Ronaldo (CR7), and PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas before bidding farewell to Osimhen.

Chiariello maintains that it would be the smartest transfer move in the last hundred years.

Writing on Twitter, the renowned journalist said (translated), “Let’s face it: I would keep Osi (Osimhen), but if Mendes really manages to bring CR7 almost free and 130 million for Osimhen there is no need to discuss, it would be the deal of the century. With CR7 and Navas, there would be the winning leaders in a strong group: after Diego, CR7 can make us win.”

How will Napoli supporters react to the sale of fan favourite, Osimhen?

Napoli, though, have maintained that they have not received any offer for Osimhen.

The Neapolitans have also bought well this summer, bringing in two established Serie A strikers in Giovanni Simeone and Gianluca Raspadori.

Club fan Maurizio De Giovanni thinks the arrival of Raspadori in Naples showed that Il Partenopei were preparing for the possible departure of Osimhen.

Giovanni is confident there would not be any problem from fans should Napoli decide to allow Osimhen to move to England

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tutto Napoli), the Italian writer said, “As a crime writer, I perceived the purchase of Raspadori as an important clue.

“Napoli have never paid 35 million for a player who is in fact currently a reserve. And here comes the clue about the possible sale of Osimhen. Which even as a fan, I would understand: if they give you 100 million euros for a player, it is right to sell him.

“There has been a lot of talk about the problems of the supporters. Well, an adequate transfer campaign was enough to remove all doubts and demonstrate that the supporter is always passionate. In fact, the fans have returned to fill the Fuorigrotta stadium.”
