Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona have been fined €12,000 for allowing in fans who made racist chants against Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
Napoli traveled to Hellas Verona for their opening fixture of the 2022/23 Serie A season. It was a very entertaining game, as the Gialloblu tried to match everything that the Partenopeans threw at them.
However, the gulf in quality prevailed, and Osimhen was one of the major protagonists, scoring one and assisting another.
Asides from the quality of football on display, Osimhen stole headlines with his celebration after he scored. It was later confirmed that the home fans were singing racist chants against Osimhen.
In related news as per el grafico, the Serie A disciplinary body has found Hellas Verona guilty, and they will pay a €12,000 fine.
Racism is not a new thing in Italian football, as cases involving African players have always surfaced. Nonetheless, it is hoped that with more stringent measures, there would be a change soon.
