The Super Eagles star will be playing in the English top-flight for the first time, but his new German boss believes he has the qualities to succeed
Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhüttl has praised latest signing Joe Aribo, affirming his belief in the midfielder’s ability to succeed in the English Premier League.
The Saints confirmed Aribo’s procurement on Saturday, signing the 25-year-old on a four-year deal.
The Super Eagles star leaves Rangers after cementing his cult hero status at the club in just three years. Aribo played a significant role in helping the Gers win the Scottish Premiership two seasons ago.
Also, the Super Eagles star proved his reliability and versatility last season, playing the most games as a Rangers player and fixing seamlessly into different positions.
Aribo helped the Gers to an unprecedented final berth in the Europa League, and a League Cup triumph last season.
However, Aribo has opened a new chapter, and he would look to wave his magic wand at Southampton.
Saints’ boss Hasenhüttl believes Aribo is very talented and has the right ingredients to impress in England.
“Joe is a player with many qualities to his game,” Hasenhüttl said as per the Southampton website.
“We are very excited to welcome him to the squad in time for the pre-season trip to Austria.
“We believe Joe can bring energy and creativity to our side. Feeling comfortable in so many different positions is very helpful for a manager and shows he has a high level of football intelligence, with the ability to take on new information quickly.
“He has played a lot of games already in his career, at a very high level, and his performances in the Europa League prove he has the quality to play in the Premier League.
“This is a big ambition for him, and he is hungry to show everybody he can do it,” Hasenhüttl concluded.
Aribo would look to get into the action as soon as possible. Southampton travel to Austria for preseason and their game against RB Leipzig headlines their fixture list before the season begins.
