Nwakaeme star left an indelible mark at Trabzon last season, but his Egyptian successor is ready to make sure he is not missed
Former Aston Villa forward Trezeguet has extolled Nigerian striker Anthony Nwakaeme for his exploits at Trabzonspor. And the Egyptian star aims to reach the great heights attained by the Nigerian striker.
Nwakaeme joined Trabzonspor in 2018, and the Nigerian striker established himself as a hero at the club. In fact, in his third season at the club, Trabzonspor erected a statue of Nwakaeme.
The 33-year-old left Trabzon after refusing to sign a contract extension. However, he left on a high. Nwakaeme recorded 13 goals and ten assists last season- the highest return in his career.
Nwakaeme played a prominent role in the Black Sea Storm’s first Super Lig triumph in 37 years.
Trabzonspor signed Trezeguet this summer to fill the gap caused by Nwakaeme’s departure, and the Egyptian aspires to reach Nwakaeme’s great heights.
“Nwakaeme is such a great player,” Trezeguet told Bordo-Mavi Duvar.
“I wish him good luck in the future. I hope I can be successful like him and help my team.”
Trezeguet comes with a big reputation. The 27-year-old spent half of last season in the Super Lig on loan from Aston Villa.
The Egyptian star registered six goals and four assists in 13 appearances for Istanbul Basaksehir last season.
He would look to spur Trabzonspor on next season.
