Super Eagles and KRC Genk forward wasn’t pleased with the position Whoscored took in rating his compatriot’s conversion
Football statistics outlet, Whoscored rated Taiwo Awoniyi’s missed chances as the third highest last season in the Bundesliga but Cyriel Dessers was far from impressed with it.
Dessers replied under Whoscored’s tweet that the statistics means the attacker is better in working to get in good positions and find chances.
He said it’s an attacker’s quality that ensures he has goalscoring chances.
“I don’t really like this stat, because I think it’s a quality to create this much clear cut chances (for yourself) as a striker. So when you create more, it’s obvious you miss more, ” he wrote.
“Or you should at least put in perspective with conversion rate or number of goals scored.”

Awoniyi was Nigeria’s top scorer across Europe’s top 5 leagues last season as he finished the season on 16 goals, helping his team Union Berlin to a Europa League slot.
According to Whostat, he however was third on the list of players with the highest missed chances in the league.
Dessers’ position and what’s largely technical football’s position supports Awoniyi’s quality runs as a reason for that.
The league’s top scorer last season, Robert Lewandowski and one of the top scorers, Andre Silva lead the chart on number of missed chances, an indication that Awoniyi’s improved goal tally is a result of his improved runs.
