Kalu had a memorable night as he got his first start, but it was not so rosy for Iwobi and Everton

Super Eagles star Samuel Kalu got his first Premier League start for Watford as the Hornets bruised Everton’s hopes of surviving the drop after a goalless draw at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets looked to put behind the stark reality of their relegation when they welcomed in-form Everton to Vicarage Road. The Toffees had been outstanding in their previous two fixtures, claiming vital wins against Chelsea and Leicester, and they looked to beat crestfallen Watford.

Watford boss Roy Hodgson handed Kalu his first Premier League start since his arrival in January. However, Dennis and Etebo only made the bench.

Everton boss Frank Lampard continued to trust Iwobi playing him at wing-back.

Kalu looked exciting on the night, but he had no significant impact. The former Bordeaux man had two shots off target and 90 percent pass accuracy.

Iwobi also churned out a decent performance as he had a strong presence on the right-wing. He was involved in most of the plays recording 85 touches, five tackles, and one interception.

However, both sides had blunt attacks on the night, and Watford held their lines despite a late onslaught from Everton.

Kalu was taken off in the 86th minute, while Etebo got a run in after 89 minutes.

The draw takes Everton two points above Leeds, who sit 18th. The toffees also have a game in hand.
